It is difficult to prevent the spread of bed bugs. Adult bed bugs can lie dormant for months and in some circumstances can live up to a year without feeding. Here are our top tips to control and prevent bed bugs in your home.
Washing: If you do find beg bugs immediately wash all infested items on a hot wash (60°C) or tumble dry on a hot setting for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Freezing: For belongings that are not washable, place the infested items in a bag and put them in a freezer for at least three days. This will ensure that all life stages of the pests have been destroyed
Vacuuming: Bed begs are found in clean and dirty places but vacuuming regularly will allow you to spot the critters sooner. Thoroughly clean all areas of you house and prevent a build-up of dust.
Sealing: Another recommendation is to seal all the cracks and crevices near your bed frame, skirting boards and other furniture to prevent hiding bed bugs.
Inspection: Before moving into a new home, bringing second-hand furniture into your home or staying away check your luggage and clothing carefully for bed bugs and their eggs.
